Private guidinganywhere in Nepal
Not every trip fits a set itinerary. Bring your own plan, a camera, a sketchbook or a whole trekking group, and I'll come along as your birder, naturalist and spare pair of eyes.
Who it's for
Birders
A serious birder on your own day out: every call named, the flock found, the right ridge at the right hour.
Photographers & filmmakers
Someone who finds the subject, reads the light and does not mind a long, cold wait.
Artists
Time to sit, look and sketch, with a guide who paints birds himself.
Trekkers
Your trek guide knows the trail. I will show you what lives along it, and photograph it for you.

Shivapuri, Kathmandu

“cloud lifting off the ridge”
Private day trips
A morning in the hills, or a day anywhere in Nepal, planned around what you want to see.
Kathmandu sits in a bowl of forested hills, and each one has its own birds: laughingthrushes and Mrs Gould's Sunbird in the rhododendrons of Phulchowki, quiet oak forest on Shivapuri, the long mountain view from Chandragiri. All within an hour or two of your hotel.
Tell me how long you have, what you would love to see and how far you like to walk. A lifer list, a slow morning with a flask of tea, or somewhere in Nepal you have always wanted to stand: we build the day around it.
Days like these
- Dawn on Phulchowki for the forest birds, back in town by lunch
- A slow, easy morning on Shivapuri for a family with young kids
- A last-minute day for a traveller with one free Tuesday

After a few days of temples and traffic, a day on Phulchowki was exactly what we needed. Krishna found Mrs. Gould's Sunbird feeding in a rhododendron and a Spotted Forktail at the stream. We saw so many birds in a single day. Placeholder review.

Field support
You stay behind the lens, the notebook or the sketchbook. I find the birds and run the days.
If you are making something in Nepal's wild places, a photograph, a film, a survey or a painting, I can be the one who makes the days work. I know where the birds feed, which hide gets the morning light, and how long a pheasant takes to forget you are there.
I scout ahead, sort out the permits, the jeeps and the early starts, and keep quiet in the field. I photograph and film too, and I paint birds, so I know what a long wait is for.
Days like these
- Dawn hides in Bardia for a stills photographer waiting on a tiger
- A week in Ilam's bamboo with a film crew following the red panda
- A quiet wetland and a patient pair of cranes for a painter's field sketches
- Bird IDs and logistics for a survey team in the high valleys

Mardi Himal, Annapurna
3,550 m · APR 2025
Naturalist on your trek
Your trek guide knows the trail. I know what lives along it.
Trekking groups walk through some of the richest forest on earth and often miss it, simply because nobody is pointing. I join your group alongside your trek guide as the birding and nature specialist.
Your guide looks after the route, the teahouses and the pace. I look after the monals on the ridge, the langurs in the oaks, the orchids by the path, and the talk over tea about what we saw. By day three, the people who never cared about birds are asking for the scope.
Days like these
- Bird walks before breakfast on the Annapurna trail
- Evening talks in the teahouse: today's birds, and tomorrow's
- A flower and butterfly walk in the spring bloom

I have been trekking for years, but never with a birder alongside. At Bamboo, Krishna waited patiently while a Great Parrotbill finally came out into the open, and at Annapurna Base Camp we watched Snow Pigeons wheel in front of the south face at dawn. A Brown Dipper at Jhinu Danda was the sweet end to a wonderful trek. Placeholder review.

Trek photography
Your trek, as the wild around you saw it.
Most trek photos are selfies at the pass. I would like to give you the others: mist lifting off a ridge, a pheasant in the first sun, your group small on a snow-bright trail, the details that made the walk feel alive.
I walk with you and photograph the landscape and the wildlife around you, from a distance and nature first, never posed. After the trek you get an edited set of photos to keep and share.
Days like these
- A whole trek in pictures: forest, ridge, village and the birds along the way
- Sunrise and golden light from the camps you sleep at
- Your group crossing a suspension bridge, seen from the gorge floor

Anywhere in Nepal
From the tiger grass of Bardia to the red panda bamboo of Ilam, these are a few of the places this work has taken me. Somewhere else in mind? Tell me what you're planning and I'll tell you honestly whether I can make it better.
